Why your sense of 'God' may only be half the story (And this is the game changer)
Hey there,
Let's be honest. Does your spiritual life ever feel like... studying a beautiful map, rather than actually taking the journey?
You know the directions by heart. You can recite the dogmas and doctrines in your sleep. But somewhere deep down, there's a longing for more than just information. You long for transformation.
Today, we're going to talk about the biggest, most overlooked secret in our spiritual lives. It's the difference between living in black and white and living in full, vibrant colour.
It is the essential distinction between believing in God and knowing God.
And this is not a semantic game. This is everything.
Level 1: Believing in God (the Map)
This is where most of us start (and sometimes get stuck). Believing is:

Mental assent. ("Yes, I believe God exists.")
Trusting the stories of others.
Following the rules on the map.
It's like someone who reads endlessly about the ocean, studies the tides, and hears wonderful stories about its power. He or she believes fervently in the ocean. But... he or she stands dry on the beach.
Believing is necessary. It is the boat you build. But a boat is not meant to be looked at; it is meant to be sailed.
Level 2: Knowing God (being in the ocean)
This is the mystical leap. It is the transition from hearing about Him to meeting Him.
Knowing is not a mental concept. It is a direct, experiential, loving encounter at the core of your being. It is leaving the boat and surrendering yourself to the overwhelming, loving power of the ocean.
Believing says, "God is Love."
Knowing is feeling that Love flowing through you, as the only reality that matters.
The great mystics, such as John of the Cross and Teresa of Ávila, called this the "Dark Night of the Senses" or "Mystical Union." Sounds heavy, right? But it boils down to this: the old, self-centred ego must let go (the "night") to make way for the true Self that is already one with God.
It is no longer "me and God," but a mutual interpenetration. A dance. A knowing.
🔥 Your challenge: from the stands to the playing field
This is my question to you, my challenge:
What are you currently living from? The "map" or the "journey"?
When you pray, are you mainly looking for answers? Or do you long for the Presence itself?
The invitation is always open. God does not long for followers who merely affirm His existence. He longs for loved ones who know Him.
This is the awakening our soul craves. This is the mystical invitation to an authenticity that changes everything.
The Journey to Deeper Connection
In this journey from believing to knowing, many discover that there is more than just the words in the Bible. It is like reading a love letter. You can understand the words, but you only feel the real meaning when you experience the love itself.
The connection with God is like a deeper ocean. The further you go, the more you discover. The depths are immeasurable. And every time you take a step further, you feel the love that embraces you. It is a love that you not only understand, but that also changes you.
The Power of Community
Another important factor in this journey is community. Together with others who are also on this journey, you can support and encourage each other. It is like a group of sailors setting out on the ocean together. They share their experiences, their joys and their challenges.
In this community, you find strength. You learn from each other and grow together. It is a wonderful way to experience the love of God, not only individually, but also collectively.
The Role of Prayer and Meditation
Prayer and meditation are also crucial in this journey. These are the moments when you become still and create space for God to speak to you. It is in this silence that you can feel God's love.
Take time to pray and meditate. Let go of the words of your prayers and listen to what God has to say to you. It can be a life-changing experience.
This is why your sense of 'God' may only be half of your story.

Do you mainly stay on the "beach of faith"?
Or have you experienced a moment when "the map turned into the journey"?
Love and Light,
Peter
P.S. Sharing = blessing! Share this with someone who is ready to get off the sidelines and storm the playing field. Let's awaken together. ✨
